ESN kills five gunmen terrorizing civilians and security agents in Anambra

 June 18, 2022

Members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, has killed five gunmen in a shootout in Ihiala, Anambra State.

The gunmen whose bodies were paraded by ESN in a Hilux van were neutralized in Akwa village in Ihiala on Friday.

Residents said the gunmen terrorized civilians, kidnapped, killed and attacked security agents in the community and its environs.

Vanguard, which also confirmed the report of the incident, quoted an eyewitness as saying “the gunmen have a camp at a place called Oseakwa from where they have been terrorizing Ihiala, Okija, Uli and other neighbouring communities.

“For some time, the gunmen have been disrupting burials and demanding to be settled before any ceremony is organized. They are also the group that has been kidnapping people and snatching cars.”

A military source who confirmed that ESN members carried out the operation said that the ESN operatives invaded the camp and neutralized the gunmen.

“We are aware of the incident. IPOB and ESN invaded the camp and killed the bandits, not the army or the Nigeria police,” the military source said.
